As the largest employer in Australia, with more than 200,000 people, Woolworths recognised that they needed to do more to support mental health in the workplace. We were tasked with creating awareness in an another, unexpected way that would tie in with the ‘I am here’ mental health campaign.
We partnered with Listen Up Music to create a bespoke Songwriter’s Festival, tailored to ‘I am here’. We invited every employee of the Woolworths Group across Australia and New Zealand to enter a competition – all they had to do was write a song about being there for someone, and upload a file of themselves or someone else performing the song to the online competition portal. The prize was a professional recording session at Studios 301 in Sydney.
The event was a huge success. More than 300 entries were received from all over Australia and New Zealand across all divisions of the business, bringing Woolworths together as one team for an important cause. Five finalists were selected to perform their song at an event in Sydney that raised funds for Lifeline and coincided with the national ‘I am here’ launch. More than 200 people attended the event, and we managed to engage team members nationwide with the issue of mental health through an unconventional and inspiring medium: music.
